In A Pinch Gifts is now 1 1/2 years old! As I look back I'm so glad I just pulled the trigger and started my little business. In A Pinch has continued to grow and I have learned so much about business and retail in my time as a business owner. I love having something to channel my creative juices into and I love dreaming and envisioning where this business will go!
The older I get the more I appreciate the process of dreaming new dreams and the more courage I have to do what it takes to implement those dreams. If I had done nothing the same amount of time would have passed and I know I would feel frustrated with myself.
This past December was our best month in business so far and for that I am truly grateful to all of my customers and also to my family. I realize I could not have accomplished any of this without these people.
As I look toward the future and picture what I want for this venture, I recognize the importance of listening to others. I would love to hear from my past customers, potential new customer, other business owners, and other dreamers. We all have something to offer and we all have the potential to grow.
Here is to a productive 2018 and I wish nothing but many blessings for all of you!
It's hard to believe that my idea to open an online store with the goal of eventually having a retail location has come to fruition in just under a year. All I can say is that I have second guessed myself many times throughout the year but every time I thought of throwing in the towel I realized the alternative would be me sitting around dreaming of what I could be doing. I knew I was tired of wishing and dreaming and ready to "just do it" already!!! That alone kept me motivated to just keep going and l'm really glad I have.
I have a lot of creative energy and this business has given me a place to channel my ideas. I'm always thinking and this helps me to keep those thoughts positive and purposeful. Having this online shop, choosing which products to carry, building my social media audience and setting up my retail location have all been a part of the process but very little of it has felt like work. I really have enjoyed every step and I'm still excited for the future of "In A Pinch Gifts!"
I look forward to continuing to grow my customer base and making all aspects of my business better and I look forward to what year two brings!
Over the years as a stay at home mom, I've tried lots of business ideas. I've come to realize that many moms do. We want it all! We want to have the flexibility to be there for our kids all while being able to help contribute financially to the household. The problem is that sometimes the timing or the idea is just not right and so we get frustrated and lose confidence in ourselves! Most of my businesses never got past the idea stage. A few got somewhat further...basically I would spend some money on whatever project or website idea I had and then -failure!
I can honestly say this is the first business I've ever had that has made money, has lasted this long, and that I still enjoy 7 months later which is a record for me! It's not really that I'm a quitter. I graduated from college, I'm raising three kids, and I've been married to the same man for over 22 years so I'm no quitter. I think all of the business failures taught me skills or lessons along the way that I needed for this business but also I think this business is working because I'm really being true to myself.
In the past when I tried things, I wasn't really sold myself so how in the world could I ever find success? As this little business grows, I constantly find myself beginning to stray in one direction or another and I have to remind myself to stay focused and make choices that I believe in 100%!
I feel very fortunate to have something that allows me to be creative and gives me purpose, all while I continue being the wife and mom that I want to be!
I've got lots of ideas and plans for In A Pinch and I look forward to see what the future brings!
I think it is inevitable that whenever you start something new you have ups and downs. I've have so many in my life that they have prepared me well and so with this little venture, I've been able to talk myself right out of any slumps as well as celebrate the ups with humility.
I'm excited to say that I've already had several sales and my most popular item is this sweet Mommy and Me Heart Necklace that I actually purchased for myself and my daughter initially. It has been a great reminder that when I'm choosing items to carry in my store I should choose things that I, myself would purchase as a customer. I feel like for the most part I have done that while also trying to be aware of what makes a great gift for anyone.
I learn something new every day with this business and I'm grateful for that because I really do love to learn and grow as a person so I'm feeling challenged, fulfilled, and excited for the future!
One of the ideas that I have for this business is to make gift giving easier for those who are too busy or who just don't feel confident when it comes to gift choices.
When I shared the business with my friends and family via Facebook, I got a message from my uncle stating, "Every man needs to know about this!" He always makes me laugh, but really, every man does need to know about this! My goal is to offer great products but also to offer great product combinations that make really thoughtful and wonderful gifts.
I look forward to seeing where this little business goes. So far, most days, I'm so excited to search for products, work on the website, or share new things on social media. But ,every now and then I think, "What am I doing?" "This isn't going to work!" Don't you hate that voice? We all have it. I've learned you really have to ignore those negative thoughts and just keep pushing forward if it is something you really want.
Until next time, happy shopping!
As I build this business, I thought I should document the process for every other person out there who has a dream. I've always wanted "to do something, create something, or build something bigger than myself" and I finally decided to just take baby steps and try it. I've tried things before but I think I wasn't able to really find success because I wasn't really being true to myself. There is a quote that I love. It goes like this: "The glory of God is the human person fully alive." - St. Irenaeus
I truly believe that the passions or things that we love and are drawn to are put within each of us by God and He really wants us to pursue those things however small or silly they might seem.
I love beautiful things. Some might see that as shallow or materialistic but I think the intent behind my love for things is what makes the difference. I love art, photos, places, flowers, and yes - jewelry and clothing! All of these things come to us directly or indirectly from God and so I just love finding the beauty in all of it!
My goal for this business is to share the beautiful things that I find with others!
